The Med restaurant in Plettenberg Bay |
||||||||||||||||||||||
This romantic, cozy family-run bistro, tucked away in Plettenberg Bay's Main street, is a favourite haunt of both locals and visitors alike. Having being around for the last 20-odd years, The Med is part of the recent history of Plettenberg Bay - and over the years supporters, and now their children, have become part of the Med family. The ambience is warm & convivial, a charming setting to share a meal and good times with friends & relatives. The colourful, rich interior, sparkling with mirrors & reflective glass panels, evoke the atmosphere of Parisian brasseries- stylish and comfortable. Throughout the languid summer months, when Plett hums with holiday-makers on the look-out for sun and sea, it's essential to book ahead to ensure a table for dinner - alternatively, arrive early to secure your table on the greenery-enveloped courtyard, to finish your evening under the stars FOOD AND WINE The Med has a reputation for serving consistently good cuisine: after working up an appetite on one of the numerous forest and coastal walks or many adventure activities, you'll be able to do justice to the exquisite food on offer. Ingredients are sourced locally as far as possible, quality and freshness being the criteria: the rusticity of a baked or roasted whole fish with the taste of slightly burned herbs; a bouillabaise with potent aioli-topped croutons, and salty, savoury oysters. Everything is presented simply, with light sauces and minimal garnishing -so that you can taste the very essence of the sea. If you aren't in the mood for seafood, you'll be equally well catered for with dishes such as superb roast duck with orange sauce (rated the best on the coast !) slow-cooked lamb shanks, pastas and vegetarian options. And don't look at the desserts page in the beginning of the evening, you might be enticed to skip the delicious meze - An extensive, Diners Club award-winning wine list complements the meal. The accent is on South African wines, and the selection changes regularly to accommodate interesting new discoveries. A range of ports, dessert wines or a choice of South African brandies will round out the evening.
