Knysna Elephant Park

Knysna Elephant Park was founded in 1994, the first elephant orphanage in South Africa and born of the struggle of the elephants in the Knysna forest. Home to the African Elephant Research Unit where sound research guides elephant management, the Park offers guests a unique opportunity to roam the fields with a fully functional herd of elephants.

Observe the matriarch taking care of and guiding the herd, whilst other females allo-mother new orphans to the Park. The matriarchal group operate in what we call a free range controlled management system, where they are free to roam just as a wild herd would. This gives visitors a unique insight into functioning of these sentient and social beings.

Here, you can sleep with, play amongst, walk with and celebrate with our herd.
