Adventure awaits in Plettenberg Bay
Plettenberg Bay, and the Garden Route, is known as one of the most popular adventure destinations in the world. And there is no adventure more inspirational than the Adventure Racing World Series’ African leg, Expedition Africa, which was held on the Garden Route in May.

54 teams from 19 different countries congregated on the Garden Route for this epic adventure which includes multiple disciplines of cycling, trekking, paddling, canyoning and abseiling. Teams navigated 500km of spectacular coastline, forest, canyon and beach using nothing but a topographical map and compass. These inspiring athletes eat and sleep when they are able during a race that lasted up to 6 days. Their determination and enthusiasm for their sport captured imaginations around the world.

What awaited teams on their adventure race was spectacular scenery around every corner – from paddling out through the Knysna Heads, to hiking the Robberg Peninsula and canyoning in the Crags – the Garden Route showcased its beauty with perfectly sunny days, magnificent indigenous forest and calm blue seas.

Cycling Trail to link Cape Town to Plett
The Western Cape has announced plans to develop a cycling route that will link Cape Town to Plettenberg Bay in an aim to position the province as the "trail capital of Africa". The first section, 160km between Plett and Mossel Bay, should be completed by mid-2017.

This is exciting news for cyclists as the trail is expected to use existing roads in some places and to blaze new trails in others as tourists can use these trails to traverse the Western Cape and Garden Route. Plettenberg Bay is known for some of the best mountain bike trails in the country offering riders an opportunity to bike through indiginous forest, winelands, farmlands, coastal cliffs and Fynbos – this is a diverse region with fine biking opportunities.

There are already local MTB events that make use of the trails around Plett including:

Dr Evil Classic - 3 Day Stage Race: 17-19 September 2016
Tour de Plett - 1 Day Race: 8 October 2016
PE>>Plett - 4 Day Stage Race: 1-4 September 2016

Plett Nominated as Africa's Top Beach Destination
Plettenberg Bay is known as a perfect holiday destination for many reasons, but none so evident than our world class beaches. The seaside town of Plett is home to four international Blue Flag beaches and a number of other popular shores – all with clean white sand, generally pleasant water temperatures and views that will stay with you long after you have headed home from your Plettenberg Bay holiday.

Plettenberg Bay has again been nominated as Africa's Top Beach Destination in the World Travel Awards. The World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across key sectors of the travel tourism and hospitality industry.

Plett has 4 International Blue Flag beaches. A beach is given Blue Flag status for excelling in cleanliness, safety, provision of amenities and environmental information and management. This prestigious status is a huge coup for Plettenberg Bay and a massive plus for beach-lovers. This internationally recognised accreditation assures tourists that the beaches that they choose to visit adhere to international safety and other tourist standards.
